The total carabao inventory was estimated at 2.74 million heads. This indicates a decline of 1.8 percent from its previous year’s same period count of 2.79 million heads. About 99.3 percent of the country’s carabao population came from smallhold farms, while the remaining 0.5 percent and 0.2 percent were from semi-commercial and commercial farms, respectively. One of the most notable accomplishments of the DA-PCC was the production of 36,618 genetically improved calves as of December 2024, achieved through artificial insemination (AI), Bull Entrustment Program (BEP), private bulls, and institutional herds. These efforts contribute to the increasing availability of high-quality buffalo genetics for milk and meat production that support sustainable livelihoods.
