The DA-Philippine Carabao Center at Cagayan State University (DA-PCC at CSU) attended the inception meeting of the Youth for Artificial Insemination (AI) Training implemented by the DA-Regional Field Office 02 (DA-RF02) in collaboration with the DA-Agricultural Training Institute Regional Training Center 02 (ATI-RTC 02) and DA-PCC, held on May 27, 2025 at Southern Cagayan Research Center-Annex, Maguirig Solana, Cagayan.

Total Carabao Inventory
The total carabao inventory was estimated at 2.74 million heads. This indicates a decline of 1.8 percent from its previous year’s same period count of 2.79 million heads. About 99.3 percent of the country’s carabao population came from smallhold farms, while the remaining 0.5 percent and 0.2 percent were from semi-commercial and commercial farms, respectively. Genetically Improved Calves
One of the most notable accomplishments of the DA-PCC was the production of 36,618 genetically improved calves as of December 2024, achieved through artificial insemination (AI), Bull Entrustment Program (BEP), private bulls, and institutional herds. These efforts contribute to the increasing availability of high-quality buffalo genetics for milk and meat production that support sustainable livelihoods.
Volume of Buffalo-Derived Products Traded (kg)
The total volume of buffalo-derived products traded reached an impressive 9.49 million kilograms, comprising 6,036,528 kg of milk, 361,343 kg of meat, and 3,092,562 kg of manure. This underscores the growing productivity and profitability of carabao-based enterprises, further driving economic gains for carapreneurs. (As of December 2024)
Clients Provided With Services
As of December 2024, the agency provided trainings to 35,471 clients, production support to 229,080 clients, and market development services to 284 organized groups, enhancing their ability to increase productivity and efficiency. All of these initiatives contribute to the agency’s broader mission of fostering inclusive and sustainable agricultural growth and development across communities.
